Vietnam: T-minus 23 Days and Counting…

<![CDATA[My month long journey to South-east Asia is only a mere 23 days away, and I'm getting a little bit nervous... sorta. I'm very excited, and actually quite freaked out as well. I have no idea what to expect, since literally everything that happens will be new to me, including the airport security, and flying in general. Most people would be a bit surprised to read that I've never flown before. Never even been inside an airplane even. No helicopters or hot air balloons. I've never shot myself out of a cannon, or tied 1,300 balloons to my house and floated to South America. The closest I've been to flying, is jumping really high on a trampoline. 😛 So it stands to be quite an out-of-the-box activity when my first flight in a plane lasts over 18 hours in the air. But that's not all! I'm also going to be submerged in an entirely new environment from my own. This isn't Europe with similar temperatures and somewhat similar lifestyles... this is something totally different. I'll be living with Hang's family, where I've been informed they sleep in nets to avoid getting mosquito bites. I'll be out in the hot, humid climate, where my white skin can easily roast to red in a matter of an hour or two. I'll be surrounded by people who do not speak English, required to accept translations when speaking. I'll be placed in a city where the pollution is so bad, many people where masks when walking around, and black-colored stuff comes out your nose when you blow it because of the unclean air. I'll be around some exotic foods that I've heard of, but never wanted to meet up with in person, and I'll be one of the tallest people in the area (as somebody who's 5'10" tall or so, this is not common for me in America). I also might get a few shots before I got over there, to avoid malaria, and other types of sicknesses that I could get from this brand new area (and the mosquitoes that run the place). I guess, if you're going to do it... might as well do it big right? Well, I am doing it big, and I'm hoping you all will follow my journey right here on my blog. I'll be updating this every chance I get (my goal is at least SOMETHING new every day) so look for that when the time comes! [charliead]]]>
