<![CDATA[Ever have a meal that makes you say, "this is not chicken!" I don't know how many of you have ever had to deal with food on airplane before, but I've had my fair share of ups and downs with the meals. From Detroit to Japan, the food was fine. I had fried rice with some mixed vegetables, and then had a turkey sandwich and some other stuff for dinner (although it was more of a snack then anything else. Later on (which is actually early morning), we had the choice between an Omelet or fried rice with some vegetables. A few brave souls decided to try their luck with the eggs on an airplane, but I wasn't so much inclined to risk my health with such a daring decision. I played it safe with the rice. Mom was one of those brave souls. Apparently there was "something in it." Further details were not provided. The flight from Japan to Manila (Philippines) was much shorter (less than 5 hours), but with that flight also came sub-par food, to the point where calling it food is a stretch of culinary reality. When I was offered "Chicken or beef", I expected the same chicken and rice I had ate in the previous flight. After all, this was the exact same plane as we were just on. It merely got cleaned up and refueled. Surely the food would be similar, yes? No. What I got was not chicken. Not at all. It was sliced into very small pieces, mimicking the look of mushrooms that had been chopped up into the dish. The pieces of what I can only assume were to be representing "meat" had a sponge-like texture that prohibited me from continuing the course with confidence after a single bite. I simply ate the rice, the roll that came with it, and the little desert cake. Unfortunately the photo above is the meal that actually was chicken. That's what the good one looked like. I didn't get a photo of the bad one before deciding I would write about it. Sadly, by the time I decided to write this, they had already taken the dish away. On the bright side, we had at least 100 different movies to choose from, many of which I had not seen. [charliead]]]>
