A Message To All Of You Who Love and Hate On the Coca Cola Superbowl Ad: "America Is Beautiful"

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ReHUMUb9gY The problem with your logic (or lack thereof) is that you’re too patriotic. You’re so “I love America” that you’ve forgotten what it stands for. You’ve forgotten the way completely, to the point where you even have a problem with people loving your country if ‘they don’t do it the right way.’ The right way, of course, being the way you do it. Obviously. So to all foreign people reading this message, I have some advice: You can take pride in America, call it beautiful, and express your love for it: but if you do it in a different way than right-wing assholes of this country do it, you’re going to get blasted for it by pompous idiots on the internet. I’m sorry to tell you this now, because I’m late to the show, but it’s apparently true. Try to get by all you want, but if you see a white person, don’t be scared or worried. Most of us are good people. Most of us have progressed our way of life and belief system beyond the 1800’s, and are very nice to everyone despite their differences. We care about your values and your way of life, and we’ve outgrown the archaic belief systems of racial inferiority, and a made-up deity discussed in a man-made book. Be prepared though: Because some of us are terrible people. Some of us have no respect for difference. Some of us are fuckin’ nuts. You’ll know who they are the moment you try to speak to them, whether it’s on the phone or in person. They’ll treat you like an inferior person. They’ll treat you as if you are nothing to them, and like you’re just a big problem plaguing this nation. Even though you show love towards this country, they’ll be disgusted by you. They might be a self-perpetuating fallacy, primed for a charge against the red flag of difference, with their pitchforks sharpened and ready to strike against anyone who looks, talks, acts, celebrates, worships, dresses, loves, eats, sweats, runs, cleans, or otherwise performs any sort of action, belief, or feeling in another way from what they are used to. They might be old, stuck in their ways. They might be young, brainwashed from their older parents. They might be a lot of things, but they won’t be me. They won’t love your difference or your diversity, regardless of how you were raised, and the conditions in which you were raised in. They won’t show interest in your belief systems, or make an attempt at learning about your culture. They won’t care. [hr] Now… If you’re actually offended by an inspirational advertisement promoting diversity and world union, and you alienate yourself from the majority of the decent people of this world… than leave my page, unfriend me, remove yourself from my life and never speak to me or my family again. Not only do I have zero interest in knowing you as person or company, but your very presence is something I do not wish upon my future children either. I don’t need you destroying their minds with your shit either. You’re a disease plaguing the world, and I want to be rid of you. Might seem hurtful and unfair, I know… but now that you’re on the other side of your hatred, you’ll understand what you do to the beautiful people praising America in this song. For a better understanding, and for perhaps a chance to improve your morality or soul or whatever, go to this page at CocaCola here.]]>

  1. Umm, not true dude. If America is as irredeemably ugly as you proclaim, a great deal of of the rest of the world is too. Europe is pretty fucking xenophobic, along with a sizable portion of the middle east. You might not know that, since you're a WASP (white, most likely protestant anglo-saxon). Dumping on your own country is not an effective way to deal with your obvious white guilt. You also don't seem to have a clue what "patriotic" means. You equate a patriot to a zealot. While zealots certainly exist, being patriotic doesn't make you a zealot. The true patriots are the people singing in this Coke ad — the people who believe in what America is capable of. Believing in your country (which you don't seem to) is patriotic.

Europe is pretty xenophobic, along with a sizable portion of the middle east. Dumping all over your own country is not an effective way to deal with white guilt. You also seem to be confused as to the meaning of the word "patriotic"; you basically equate a patriot to a zealot. While zealots certainly exist, being patriotic doesn't make you a zealot. The true patriots are the people singing in this Coke ad, people who believe in what America is capable of. You clearly care about this a lot — I think you could make a bigger, positive difference with constructive criticism, rather than spending your energy going toe-to-toe with bigots and internet trolls.

  3. I don't think I really equated a patriot to a zealot… I would say I equated an extreme patriot to one, just as I would equate an extreme anything to a form of zealot in some way. Plus, this is destructive action from this behavior; from this social construct built upon social inequality, something I definitely care a lot about. Part of what makes my goals and efforts on the internet, and this site in particular, so great for me. Because I can move open thought in front of as many eyes as possible.
The people singing this are patriots, in the sense that they love and stand for what this country is really all about. But those who hate on patriots. What do we call them? I don't really know a proper name for them… so I just blurt out my mind in the written word on a website about them, in hopes that one single person somewhere in the world realizes how dumb they've been, and changes their minds. Just one. If I can achieve just that, it's worth my time.
Thank you for stopping by Ben. Appreciate the feedback.

  4. The problem there is how people define what a patriot is. This country was founded by patriots; people who spoke out against an oppressive government. People now think of a patriot as a person who blindly supports their government without question. No. I disagree completely. A patriot is always questioning and criticizing their own government; they seek to improve it, not just for them, but for everyone their government is supposed to protect.
I believe a good modern example would be Edward Snowden. By the original definition, not the twisted one that's wide-spread now, he is a true patriot, And because of it the people he was looking out for call him a traitor. (Isn't that mess up? I think it is.)
Anyway, this was just expanding on a tangent.
The article was, maybe overly curse filled, but it definitely showed your passion on the subject. It was a beautiful advert and I loved the "BTS" for it.

  6. Kristopher Sloboda Here are definitions:
A traitor is a person that goes against their own people to aid the enemy.
The only way Snowden is a traitor, is if the government is the people, and the people are the enemy.
