Short Film of the Week: Plot Device by Red Giant

<![CDATA[This is a regular segment on my blog, where I share my favorite short films from around the web. These will most likely all come from Vimeo, but occasionally I see a bit of artistic flare on YouTube that sparks my eye. It doesn't matter when the film was released, because it's all about new discovery for me, and not necessarily for the world. All videos in this category add something to the creative flow, and are shared in hopes that it sparks creativity and imagination in my friends and colleagues. This week, my pick is a short film by Red Giant, titled "Plot Device" Red Giant is a company that has created a variety of professional special effects tools that are widely accepted and used by the professional film community. With this film, they've also used a RED camera, and their own After Effects plugins such as software from the Trapcode series (Particular, Starlight, Form, etc), and the Optical Flares pack by Video Copilot. This film, one of a few they've done in the past, follows a young filmmaker who obtains a mysterious device that unleashes the full force of cinema on his front lawn, taking him through a variety of popular plot points and cinema styles with every press of a button. While this film is technically not the standard indie film done without a studio, it is a very low-budget production, relying heavily on post-production techniues to make it interesting. On top of that, as stated above, it also inspires new ideas and creativity within the community that embraces it. So with that being the case, it's my pick for this week's short film of the week. If you enjoyed this film, and would like to watch the "Behind the scenes" work on it, check out the secondary video below: [charliead] httpvh://vimeo.com/24747132]]>
