<![CDATA[Recently, my mom went and sang at a contest at Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan called the "Soaring Eagle Super Stars Contest." Singers from around the state gathered to compete for a chance to win money, and a spot in a larger competition that will allow them to open for a major artist later this year. Last year, the winner opened for "Big and Rich." This year was the first year my mom went to compete in this competition. For those who don't know, my mom is a lead singer in the local classic rock and county music band called "Night Shift.” She’s got a lot of singing experience, and a wide vocal range that allowed her to do well in her local music career thus far. On a side note, I really enjoy watching her. It’s not every day you get the chance to see your parents rock out on a stage. The above video is a recording from her second song at the competition qualifier, which took place Saturday July 13, 2013. The winner of this qualifier is given $500 in cash, and entry into the final competition on August 24th, which holds the qualifier winners against each other to compete for $5,000. On top of the money, the winner in August will also be able to open for a “big name” artist later. Although she’ll admit to messing up in a few spots with both this song, and her first song, I think she did a fantastic job, despite how nervous she was. This is her second song out of the two she had to sing. After everyone was done singing their first song, the top six performers were selected out of the larger group, and then given another chance to sing with a new song. If you’d like to see her first song, you can do so here. [charliead]]]>
