This Is The Route I'm Taking To Hollywood (Updated)

my introduction video to this little trip, I’m traveling about 2,100 miles across the country alone in my car. The Google Map below shows a pretty decent representation of the route I’ll be taking for the journey, and will evolve as I make changes for one reason or another… View Charlie’s Route To Hollywood! in a larger map To prepare, I’ll have a cooler in my backseat to help with keeping some food and drinks ready in the car. This will help to minimize the amount of stops I have to make on the way. According to the most recent tests of my vehicle’s specifications and performance, I’ll be able to get to my destination with filling up my gas tank seven times, for a total of approximately $385 for gas (one-way). That’s if the price of fuel stays an average of $3.80 per gallon. I’m obviously hoping to see cheaper prices along the way, as it would reduce my costs of travel. I likely won’t stop for fast-food or anything extra that requires money from me, unless it involves stopping for a landmark or attraction of some kind (think Chevy Chase and The World’s Largest Frying Pan). The car has gotten six quarts of some new full-synthetic oil, a new air filter, new fuel filter, and a tune up. I’ll probably sleep in my car every now and then as well, rather than paying for motels. I’m hoping to leave Thursday, and arrive by Saturday night, if everything goes smoothly. UPDATE #1: I’ve changed my route to a slightly longer version, which will take me about 100 extra miles, and last for about 1.5 hours longer. The simple reason for this little change, is so I can visit a couple key landmarks that Hang and I wanted to visit when we went to Las Vegas late last year, but couldn’t go to. This new route, as you can see above, takes me to the Grand Canyon, and also up and over the Hoover Dam. It detours from actually being the fastest route, but it allows me to see some cool things (and show all of you cool things too). I’ll have lots of pictures and video for everyone right here on the site when I get there. The new route will allow me to experience virtually every single type of sight and terrain configuration the continental United States offers, including plains, desert, mountains, canyons, high heat, cold, wet, rainy, windy, a mile high, and sea level. I’ll drive through really cool cities, and see some really cool things. (Note: no actual addresses are disclosed here. Starting point and end points are given to approximate locations that are near the addresses, but are not actually pointing to a real address).  [charliead] ]]>

  1. If u go that way u will hit the toll roads on and it is a very boring drive. I have driven that way going to Mi and coming home to Mo and for me, taking 69 down to st louis going around the 270-370 loop on to 70 towards KC is much faster and no toll roads. Truck stop gas stations are pretty neat too. I stopped at a few that had slot machines in them, lol. Glad to see ur taking a cooler, I said before it will save u a ton on eating expenses.

    1. The problem with going that far south, is that it invites me to need more fuel, and spend more time, as it's roughly 110 more miles than the currently suggested path. – with a 1 day 16 hour drive, there is no way to avoid it getting boring at times. – Vlogging the trip will make it more interesting, especially through the mountains of Colorado and the Grand Canyon.

  3. The shortest is not always the quickest. Do you know anyone who has driven it several times? They could probably tell you. My sister in law used to live there but hasn't driven it in years. Not sure she would be any help.
But sounds like you have it all mapped out so go for it.

    1. Yeah, this is the fastest route as well as the shortest. It's 1.5 hours faster than it's alternative route, and 2 hours faster than a trip down as far as Arizona. With this route, I also get to travel into a very diverse set of areas, such as the mountains in Colorado and the Grand Canyon in Nevada.

  5. OK after several clicks on the link then the vlog I did finally find out you are leaving May 3rd. Have a safe trip and remember to take power naps when you feel sleepy. Just pull over and rest a while. Or maybe a couple of those 5 hour energy things! Haha! I would take just enough caffeine to keep you awake but not so much to make you jittery.

  6. I am terrible on the road so I have some No Doze pills. I break them in half though and only that that much at a time.
