The status lights turn on when a signal is received. It will be green for as long as it is powered. When you place two logic bridges on the same power line, they are technically connected.
Use regular lights for outdoors
Just put a normal light outdoors and becomes a little light post. I don't know nothing about the logic boards.

plenty of comments about the lights so I'm sure you have enough info there. the logic board', status lights and bridges are all for doing simple 'programming' type tasks. such as setting up a system where one remote door can only open if the next door is closed this /or/ this. or multiple conditions like this /and/ this. that's what the switches mean,
