FAQ:
1) Your mic sucks! Why is it peaking/loud/distorted like that?
-Go to about 4:30 – I fixed most of it. I cannot monitor things quite as well as I usually can with this setup. I did my best, and after a few minutes, do address that. When there are issues with sound, I only know about them because of the live chat, which I couldn’t watch constantly with this stream.

2) What parts are you installing?

i7-8700k is replacing my i7-5930k
Asus Maximus X Hero is replacing my Asus X99 Deluxe/3.1
G.Skill 32GB (2×16) 3200mhz C14 RAM is replacing my G.Skill 32GB (4×16) 2400mhz C15 RAM

3) What is (insert part you see on my PC here)..
-Links to everything, and other notable components in the build are below. (All links are affiliate):

Old MB: Asus X99 Deluxe/3.1: amzn.to/2k89XiE
New MB: ASUS Maximus X Hero amzn.to/2iZkKIo
Old CPU: i7-5930k: amzn.to/2k9wLOQ
New CPU: Intel i7-8700k: amzn.to/2iZ95cQ
Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX Liquid Cooler amzn.to/2h1Yn1T
RAM: 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200 C14 amzn.to/2k7IjSQ
Video Card: Asus Geforce GTX 1080 STRIX-Gaming (8GB) amzn.to/2h21F4Z
PSU: Corsair 1000W 80+ Platinum amzn.to/2h20VNt

CASE: Phantek Enthoo Luxe (Black): amzn.to/2j1wR7V
Extra Fans: Noctua Focused Flow Industrial: amzn.to/2j1tWMt

4) What mic is that you’re using?
-It’s an older model Samson Lavalier with receiver. They don’t sell this model anymore, but you can get one (better) like it here: amzn.to/2ka8f01

5) What thermal paste did you use?
– Arctic Silver 5: amzn.to/2Bu6u1Y

6) How long did it take to do this?
-It likely would have only taken a couple hours tops, but because I wanted to present it in a ‘fun’ and different way than most do when they’re on their own like me – It took about 8 hours, broadcast time.

7) You’re doing [insert anything you want] wrong! Why didn’t you [insert what you think I should do here] instead?
– Because I’m very new at custom PC building, and this is all kinda self-taught. Regardless of what you think I should do though, this works/worked well.

8) I was at the live stream… where did [some part you remember] go?
-I cut some of it, to eat away at a lot of the lag time and breaks. I can’t cut as much as I normally would, because these cut-up parts are exported from Twitch, but when I can cut things out, I did.

9) How’s the computer running now?
-It’s running great, but not as I had hoped. It appears I once again lost the Silicon Lottery, as my chip has a very hard time overclocking without overheating. Intel puts terrible thermal compound between their PCB and IHS (the big silver part responsible for getting the heat off the chip). As a result, I probably need to “Delid” my chip in order to get the performance I expected, and paid a premium for.

10)… Delid?
– It’s where you separate the IHS (big silver part) from the PCB (the green part that does all the work), and clean off the terrible TIM (the cheap thermal compound that Intel puts there) that’s in there, and replace it with good stuff. I’ll likely have another live stream of that part when it comes time to do it.

11) Isn’t that dangerous?
-It used to be super dangerous. Today it’s very easy. I’ll say nothing more about it other than “you’ll see” later

12) Are people really going to ask these things? Are you just making up things in the FAQ now?

Yes… and if you’re still reading – I hope you got a smile out of it.

  1. Hey, you did get the 8700k! Awesome. I hope you get a better OC with the new TIM. Are you using your Videocard for Encoding/Editing or are you using the built in VP9 on the Intel processor? Guess I need to catch you on a stream again and throw more Bit's at you =)

  2. Which AIO is that and how long have you had it? Any issues with it? How well do you recommend it.
Debating between Corsair h115i and EVGA clc 280 for my 8700k. What you think?
