Prison Architect 2.0 – Ep 78 – The Problem With Staff Needs Part 2 – Let’s Play

Let’s Play Prison Architect 2.0 – EPISODE 78. Staff Needs, as a new game mechanic, has been turned on now… let’s see what’s going on here, and I’ll show you why I believe this system is great – but totally bugged out and shouldn’t be implemented yet in this prison.

Prison Architect is a game where you plan and design a prison from scratch, and then manage it and all the potential problems that go with it. From proper segregation to maintaining happiness within the population to prevent riots and improve rehabilitation, players in Prison Architect are tested on their abilities to solve problems before they get out of hand, while also managing a budget and growing their business.

The concept of building and managing a prison is a dark one, but Introversion Software, the creators of Prison Architect, have done an awesome job at bringing this conceptually difficult game into a lighthearted and fun environment, with fun graphics to go with it.

New Episodes will be posted here when they are edited and available, and may take different forms and pace as time goes on. A link to a full post covering the episode will be linked as the first thing in this description if available.

I hope you enjoy this series. I intend to play it for as long as there is interest in it. I know this isn’t a new game, but I hope to present a style that is enjoyable, despite perhaps seeing the game before.

  1. I think you just need 3 large staff rooms with a canteen and bathroom attached. One in the middle of the south side, one in the northwest side and one by the death row. Just my opinion, so they don't need to go from one location to the other. Maybe even just one extremely large but central staff room/canteen mix.

  2. I haven't watched the whole video yet, but just from the bit I've watched it seems like you're possibly running into bugs causing issues. For example the "killed by baton" thing sounds like maybe something with the health going down too fast/far with a baton hit causing death before unconscious/subdued. Food deliveries could also be messy for the staff canteens because the way I think it works is the cooks start cooking 3 hours before mealtime for the prison regimes, but obviously the guards rotate eat times so there like always needs to be food in there almost.

Other than that I agree that for going forward, if you want to use this feature, to condense things greatly. So rest, food, etc, all in same big building or next to each other if you want to keep outdoor thing. Maybe also attach small dedicated kitchens to the canteens also due to the way food works for prisoners.

Oh and I would probably wait to turn it on until it's no longer in beta and an actual full on update. Which, to be honest, may rule it out for this prison and I don't know if once this series is over you plan to do like a "season 2" type thing.

  3. reset the map in your own time pleas
its a kinda waste of an episode for us if you are going to put a full epp into deleting staff kantines and rooms
btw much love for your vids
i wached all prison vids in 1 week

  4. The only state that currently uses the firing squad is Utah, not Texas. Texas's primary method is lethal injection, with the secondary method being the electric chair.

  5. Just make your staff rooms with literally everything the need to become satisfied. I designed mine centered around a Canteen/Staff room, it has its own private kitchen, toilets, couches, rec items, etc. Literally everything they need is in one spot so no matter which staff room they choose for their break, they only need to choose 1 and it works. This has allowed me to cutdown on the length and number of breaks needed as well.

  6. I know this is an old video, but IS has not fixed staff needs. Mods still haven't really fixed it, and I like to avoid mods for these things because it feels like cheating. Anywho, staff needs is still broken because if you have a staff canteen, the food will be delivered to the closest one and only that one. If you put a serving table, table and benches inside a staff room, they will still deliver the food. You need longer break times than 90 minutes to get the guards to get their needs satisfied. Until IS fixes the feature, though, leave it off.
