Are Grains Really Bad For Your Brain? Study Says Yes

Forbes has picked it up, and it’s made its way around the interwebs, I thought I’d just spill it. Alzheimer’s disease may actually be a third type of diabetes, and our diet is likely contributing to it. Have you noticed the insanely high amount of Alzheimer’s numbers we have in the western world as opposed to the East? Well, studies are showing evidence that our diet is likely the culprit to that. We already knew that diet was a contributing factor to brain functionality(or at least, I did), but what I’ve never been aware of were specifics and the food that could have an adverse effect on memory. More specifically, high carbs and whole grains. David Perlmutter is a neurologist and the president of the Perlmutter Health Center in Naples, Florida, and he claims that all carbs, including the highly touted whole grains, are devastating to our brain function. He says that Dementia, chronic headaches, depression, epilepsy, and other contemporary surges are not in our genes, but rather, the food we eat, and high amounts of these foods have a devastating affect on our brain function. Now I’ve stayed away from the really bad foods for a while now such as junk meats like Bologna and hot dogs (I haven’t had bologna in well over a decade, and it’s been at least a couple years since my last ball park frank), but I’ve always considered whole grains to be good for you. In many ways, they are. Now I’ve had a pretty grain-heavy diet for a while. Pretty much my whole life. I’ve also had pretty poor memory as well, as my wife will no doubt agree with. Meanwhile, the people of the east also have a really high carb diet in terms of rice, but what they don’t have a whole lot of are grains. The government and pharmaceutical companies, obviously, has been contributing massive amounts of money towards developing drugs to Alzheimer’s and other brain and memory conditions, but Perlmutter says that the idea of a life modification for Alzheimer’s has been with us for years., and it’s cost free. Perlmutter also claims that a high-fat diet is enormously better for you, and far more natural to our biology, than a high carb one, saying quote:

This low-fat idea that’s been drummed into our heads and bellies is completely off-base and deeply responsible for most of our modern ills.
While many of us, myself included, likely don’t feel a huge impact from this way of life now, the impacts later in life are where things really start to sink in. When it’s too late. Of course simply changing our diets is something that is most often easier said than done, as many of us are just stuck in our ways. So what you should take away from this, is that you should eat less sandwiches, and more bacon. mmmmm…. bacon. So that’s it guys.
